The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) receives frequent inquiries regarding the rerating of a commercial vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWRs). This information clarifies the process and potential consequences of altering these weight ratings.
Can a Used Vehicle Be Rerated?
Unfortunately, no. Certification and weight ratings are assigned only to new vehicles by the manufacturer during the initial build process.
The clock is ticking for truck manufacturers seeking to comply with California's stringent new emission regulations. As of April 1st, 2024, only engines certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as meeting the state's Omnibus rule can be used in new trucks destined for California.

Designed for peak performance in vocational applications, the TX-12 PRO expands on the capabilities of the existing TX-12 transmission.
Optimized for Class 6-8 and Light Vocational Use
The TX-12 PRO targets Class 6-7 trucks and light Class 8 vocational applications. It seamlessly integrates with select Kenworth Class 8 models, including the T680 and T880 equipped with MX-11 or PX-9 engines. Availability will extend later this year to encompass Kenworth Class 6-8 models like the T280, T380, and T480, again paired with the PX-9 engine.

Chillicothe, Ohio – March 4, 2024 – Kenworth Truck Company is proud to celebrate a golden anniversary – 50 years of building its iconic trucks at the Chillicothe, Ohio assembly plant. The plant officially opened its doors on March 4, 1974, and just one day later, the very first Kenworth W900 truck rolled off the assembly line.
Since then, the dedicated employees at the Kenworth Chillicothe plant have produced over 782,000 trucks, all embodying the company's core values of quality, innovation, and cutting-edge technology. The plant currently employs approximately 2,500 people, making it one of the largest employers in Ross County and Kenworth's largest manufacturing facility in the world.
"Chillicothe is the perfect location for Kenworth to build trucks," said Jim Walenczak, Kenworth general manager and Paccar vice president.

January 22, 2024. Kenworth is pleased to offer Jost Loc-Light JSK37UBE Fifth Wheel options for the T680, T880, and W990. The Loc-Light features a dual-sensor system with a Go/No-Go (Green/Red) indicator light located on the fifth wheel and audible alert that assists drivers with determining when the handle and kingpin are in the proper locked position.

This will be standard on T680 units with MX-11 or MX-13 engines, and PACCAR TX-12 Transmissions and Cummins X15 engines with Eaton Endurant HD transmissions.
